28 Mar Easter Holiday Weekend
Easter Holiday Weekend has got to be one of my favorite holidays. Not only because in the Bahamas we get four days off but because the Easter prep work is so much fun with the kids. Decorating Easter eggs, having Easter egg hunts, baking cupcakes, decorating cupcakes, eating fish and way too many hot cross buns- yeah, that’s what I call a good time!
This year I decided to get a new idea on Easter egg decorating, so I turned to Martha [Stewart], Living Magazine for some speckled egg inspiration.
Here’s how it went:
We boiled our eggs hard, let them cool (which takes forever, so put them in ice cold water to speed it up), we added our egg coloring dye tablets, you can also use a few drops of food coloring. I also added a few drops of white vinegar to the water to make the colors brighter. We colored 8 eggs and left four of them white. Then we waited for them to dry before we started the next step- speckling them!
We added lentils and beans to small bowls and added a few drops of food coloring. We did red and green and put the eggs in and tossed them around.
The green and blue were my favorite! So chic 🙂 And super simple to create.
Then on to the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday morning at a farm called, GoodFellow Farms. They do an annual Easter egg hunt for the kids and it’s FREE every year. Starts at 10 am sharp and you will miss it for sure if you come late.
The kids were all ready to go, my husband took my son and I went with my daughter. The guy with the Parrot is the owner of the farm, Ian. My beautiful cousin, Anna, shown above, her kids were there with us!
Sunday morning we went for another Easter egg hunt at my Sister-in-law and Brother’s place and we set up a cake decorating station. Actually, that wasn’t in the initial plan but because I made the cupcakes that morning, we had to wait for them to cool, so I decided that it would be more fun for the kids if they got to decorate their own. They loved it!
Sugar rush galore….I’d say it was a good weekend! Now on to raspberry & coconut popsicles, and deviled eggs.
