07 Sep Bug Repellent replacement #Recipe
It has been raining a lot lately in this part of the world, and the result of all that rain has been millions of mosquitoes. I try very hard to use safe, natural products in my household and for my family. Reading an article today I was reminded of why I do this. This article describing how DEET, the main ingredient in insect repellent, can strip the paint right off of your car and, how it’s action, once applied, cannot be halted, really grabbed my attention!
We use a homemade mosquito repellent that I make. It is so easy!
Homemade Insect Repellent
1 1/2oz witch hazel or vodka
2oz filtered water
25 drops peppermint essential oil
20 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops eucalyptus essential oil
Mix and store in dark glass spray bottle like this one available on Amazon, (click here)
Shake well before each use. Apply liberally to exposed skin and clothes.
And if you don’t have those essential oils you can use any combination of 50-60 drops of essential oils with insect repellent properties. These oils will work for mosquitoes in particular: citronella, lemon eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, catnip, basil, clove, thyme, lemongrass, geranium, neem and lavender.
Until my next adventure,

PS- Be careful using essential oils if pregnant as some may have adverse effects. Always check with your doctor before applying something to your baby’s skin.
