Living. Loving. Parenting: Hang out with us every Monday & Thursday

5 Tips for Weaning A Toddler My 16.5 month old and I both love breastfeeding. The bonding, the special quiet moments together, the nutritional value, the benefits for me, the list of your typical reasons are nothing new. I could go on and on, but most of all, it worked for us.   We recently came to a point where I knew it was time to start weaning him off. Not only was he constantly trying to rip my shirt off, but a couple weeks ago I caught a nasty stomach bug, and that was the day I realized how much of a toll it was taking on my body.   I lost 5 lbs in a 24 hour period from this bug. I couldn't even keep water down, yet I had to continue to nurse my son whenever he asked for it. We were in a vicious "don't offer, don't refuse" cycle, and I...

The Joy of Having #2 When you become a Mom for the first time in life, it's LIFE CHANGING, isn't it?  People will try to explain how you will feel, and what it will be like when you have the baby, but they can never find the right words to describe the magnitude of emotions and love you feel when you actually give birth.  After you give birth,  the next thing new mothers are always asked is, "Will you have another one?" Seriously, read this Considering they've just pushed a watermelon out of their body, this may not go over so well.  And then, time passes, and we FORGET, don't we?!  That clock gets ticking and tocking, louder and louder, and we find ourselves pondering the thought of #2. Some of you might be wondering, as many of us have, if you'll be able to love another child as much as you love your...

Summer is about to begin: A Day at Clifton Heritage Park Every once in a while we forget the beauty that exists around us.  It's easy to take things for granted sometimes because we're all so busy, and consumed with LIFE.  But what I love about forgetting, is remembering. When you remember all the good in your life and around you, the memories seem to be even more vivid, and I for one, take. in. every.moment.  The vivid colors of the waters of the Bahamas are, and will always be stunning. I love to watch my bitties bask in the sun, loving every minute.  It makes it that much more amazing...

Show me your best side They say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," and yes, we all have things that we like and find attractive in others.  We don't all like the same things, and I find it interesting that science has come out with studies and scientific evidence that suggests that we see things based on symmetry, and are attracted to things about a person that we aren't typically cognizant of, it's more instinctual.  But what about how we feel about ourselves?  It seems that the common feeling among us, especially women, is that there are things about our outward appearances that we don't like.  Sure, it's pretty normal to not like everything about our appearance, but why does it seem that we can't see what other people see in us? Over the weekend, I spend some time with a young and beautiful family.  I was lucky to...

Ahhh....Weekendssss...nice isn't it?  For many of us that are lucky enough not to have to work on the weekends, we take this time very seriously.  And when I say "we," I mean, me. Ha!  There was a time when I worked all weekend long, even though I loved what I did, not being able to go to birthday parties with my kids was a real bummer.  I appreciated my weekends SO MUCH MORE when I actually got them back.  I never want to miss a thing and carefully plan out my weekends with my kids.  Sundays are especially glorious because I make sure all my errands are run on Saturdays. Can you believe, I used to go grocery shopping on SUNDAYS....such blasphemy!   O.K.,  like my good friend Maya Angelou said, "when you know better, you do better."  Alright, we weren't friends, but a girl can dream, can't she?!

Recipe: 10 min. banana coconut pancakes Weekends are when we get to take the time to make breakfast for the kids.  During the week, on school mornings, they get cereal with milk, toast or a fried egg, obviously something quick.  Even though on the weekends we normally have a bit more time, no one wants to spend hours cooking and cleaning a kitchen and most of the time, our weekends are packed with outings.  This weekend, we went to the beach and did a little line fishing.  It was so much fun, the kids had a blast!  Truthfully, my husband is the one that makes the best sand dollar pancakes.  He has the patience to sit there and cook a hundred little sand dollar sized pancakes...
