Living. Loving. Parenting: Hang out with us every Monday & Thursday

More than ever, moms these days are looking for ways to save and make their dollar stretch. They're sticking to or creating budgets for their family like never before.  Nothing breeds thriftiness more than necessity; in fact, I think being thrifty these days is totally trendy; that's a trend I don't mind following at all.  Apps like Pinterst make it super easy to D.I.Y.(Do it yourself) any project you have in mind.  If you've got the patience for D.I.Y., you must try it; it will save you money and make you oh-so-proud of your latest creation.  With school back in full effect, here are a few of my savvy budget friendly food tricks:   Leave the plastic in the store. I must admit, the thoroughly-washed, ready-to-eat packaging calls my name too! It's just so convenient, isn't it?  It's not as friendly on your pocket though.  Here's how I make peace with not...

It's one of the first and most important decisions you'll ever make for your child; a decision that will last them for the rest of their lives.  What they are known as, what people call them, and all of the feelings and perceptions that your chosen name gives, will be the air around them during their entire life.  From Apple to Blue to North, Silas, Indiana, Brooklyn & Coco; we've seen celebrities name their babies all sorts of creative and unique things.  The name game has surely changed since the days of passing on names from generation to generation, although some people still opt to maintain that family tradition.  I want to make this process as easy as possible for you; I know it can be overwhelming to decide what you will call your baby, so there are a few things to consider when picking that perfect baby name. photo source   Traditional...

As a newlywed, the topic of whether or not I would change my last name was something I indeed had to think about, not for too long, but I did have some things to wrap my mind around on my journey from Ms. to Mrs. Here are the 6 things I think should be considered before you change from your maiden to your married surname. Should you do it? The modern woman has thrown out the rule book when it comes to taking their husband’s last name. It is no longer a must for a woman to become “Mrs. my-husband’s-last-name”. Some women don’t change their name at all, they keep their maiden name because that works for them…they have had that last name all of their life so if it ain’t broke, no need to fix it right?! Some women hyphenate their name which allows them to hold on to their...

It's funny that by nature, most of us wrap ourselves up in our own little world; safe in our own little environment, doing our own little thing, and living within the confines of our own situations and circumstances.  The circumstances that we face everyday are sometimes draining, upsetting, sad and frustrating.  We all have our own issues, I get it; in our minds they feel like big issues and sometimes they are; it's a part of life, but every once in a while you'll get a glimpse of what other people are going through, their pain, their challenges, their fears, their stress and their worry and in an instant you realize, that your own issues are sometimes nothing compared to theirs, and in fact, you have no idea what it's like to walk in their shoes.                 If you watched TV, or picked up a world news publication at all last...

It has been raining a lot lately in this part of the world, and the result of all that rain has been millions of mosquitoes.  I try very hard to use safe, natural products in my household and for my family. Reading an article today I was reminded of why I do this. This article describing how DEET, the main ingredient in insect repellent, can strip the paint right off of your car and, how it's action, once applied, cannot be halted, really grabbed my attention!   We use a homemade mosquito repellent that I make. It is so easy!   Homemade Insect Repellent   1 1/2oz witch hazel or vodka 2oz filtered water 25 drops peppermint essential oil 20 drops lavender essential oil 15 drops eucalyptus essential oil   Mix and store in dark glass spray bottle like this one available on Amazon, (click here)   Shake well before each use. Apply liberally to exposed skin and clothes.   That's it!   And if you don't have those essential...
