Living. Loving. Parenting: Hang out with us every Monday & Thursday

Decking the Halls on a Mamma’s Budget This Christmas, I have a very active 1 year old, and it was time to decorate with that in mind. I also had budget in mind, and found a fun, creative way to decorate my tree with limited ornaments for my son to pull down. Limited ornaments ALSO means friendly on the wallet :) Frosty the Snowman Tree What you will need to cover a 6ft tree: 1 Red Scarf 4 Large red ornaments 1 roll of white mesh organza 1 8-10” diameter Styrofoam ball 1 top hat (if you can’t find one, you can make one out of cardboard and black felt like I did) Black and Orange felt 1 empty toilet paper roll White fabric and stuffing Hot glue gun Step 1: Snowman head. I dug out a hole for the tree branch to stick into, covered the Styrofoam ball with stuffing and then wrapped it with the white fabric. I gathered all...

Write your Happy List The Holidays are here and before you know it, a new year will be here too.  This season, more than ever, retailers have chosen a different angle and way of grabbing the public's attention.  They're doing it by pulling on the heart strings of the audience; showing family togetherness, love, joy and the happiness of family and friends.  Toys r us and Ikea are just two retailers that will have you reaching for the box of tissues.  I suppose it's a bit genius really.  With most of the world feeling quite emotional about the state of things recently, it's understandable why now, more than ever, moments of happiness and family togetherness resonate and appeal to our senses.  It is nice to have those reminders that life is really about the simple things; that happiness is a choice for most people, and living in and appreciating moments of...

Ho Ho Hold the Holly: Baby Proof Christmas Decorating A few years ago on Christmas Day my husband and I rescued two kittens. Or rather, my sister and aunt, who were visiting at the time, joined me in cajoling my husband in rescuing two kittens we found in a tool shed on a friend’s farm. I worried only slightly that they might try to climb the tree. They didn’t. That was the one and only time I ever gave my Christmas decorating more than a passive thought. Until now… This year we have an extremely active 6 month old. He’s on the move, crawling and pulling himself up into a stand. Everything goes in the mouth. EVERYTHING. So, I’ve spent some time planning out a few baby-safe holiday decorating strategies. Hold the Holly? First of all, I don’t know anyone who uses real holly. But if you do (you fancy-pants, you), maybe forgo it this year....

25 Things to do before Christmas Don't blink!  Christmas will be here sooner than you think.  I can't believe how fast time flies.  I suppose our chronic busyness doesn't help with that. But if ever there was a time you could choose to relax and live in the moment more, it should be now.  Christmas is a time for family togetherness and love, or at least it should be. It can be quite difficult to be at peace this time of the year with so much going on; the hustle and bustle of Christmas can cause people stress.  The way around all of the stress and anxiety is to have a game plan.  A carefully thought out, written down plan leading up to the day.  This will make sure you stay organized (which is part of the reason people are stressed) and accomplish what you want this holiday season. Here are 25 things...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! Here in The Bahamas, Thanksgiving is not a holiday…it is still observed in some way by many Bahamians though, especially those that love a good turkey dinner with all the fixin’s! My family and I have taken to fully celebrating Thanksgiving over the past few years. It is a tradition that my husband and I have maintained since we first got together. My siblings and their significant others and kids all gather at our house for an impressive potluck.   At this dinner, there is no such thing as too much food, and my family takes home leftovers to last several days! Thanksgiving dinner is something that my husband and I look forward to every year and this year is the first year in our new house! Needless to say, we are super excited to be hosting it!  One of the traditions at our Thanksgiving dinner is that we all...
