7 things to LOVE about newborns
Newborns are amazing! I know we think that they are frail little things not capable of much more than crying, sleeping and pooping, but in reality, crying, sleeping and pooping is just what they do most of the time, they’re actually very strong, and quite capable of doing all of the instinctual baby things.
Ever seen a baby do skin-to-skin in the moments after birth? Like literally, minutes after being born (how traumatic is that!) they are bobbing their little heads around, and using ALL of their body and senses to find their mother to breastfeed for the first time.
I find that AMAZING…Watch it here 🙂
Here are 7 more things I love about newborns:
That baby smell
There is no doubt that the baby smell is the sweetest smell ever. It’s distinct and I’m pretty sure when you smell it, Oxytocin (the love hormone) is pumping through your body.
It’s funny how one forgets how small they really are. You can have multiple kids, and every time you see a newborn, you’re amazed at how little they are….at least, I am!
Their warm little bodies
There is something so cozy about a curled up newborn, their body temperature is like ours, but for some reason they feel so cozy and warm.
Babies sleep a lot during the neonate period which is typically from birth to around 6-8 weeks. If you’re anything like me, you’ve sat there and watched your babies sleep…we want to make sure they’re O.K, right?!
Their wrinkly skin
Ever seen a baby that looks like an old man? Ha. Isn’t it the cutest thing! Now, this is the cutest little champ ever!
Their hairy little backs, and ears…well all over really!
You know most babies have hair all over their bodies. Eventually, it falls off, but its silky soft! Some babies are bald and some have a full head of hair. Did you have heartburn while pregnant? They say heartburn = full head of hair.
When they sleep with their bums in the air
This may be my favorite thing. I loved seeing my babies do that in their cribs while they slept. I don’t know why they did that, but I think all babies do it. I LOVE IT!
